The National Federation of Music Clubs Alpha Corinne Mayfield Award  

Anyone between the ages of 20 and 35 who is a student in a licensed music school and has a private teacher or coach affiliated with a certified school, college, or university is eligible to apply for the Alpha Corinne Mayfield Award (as of January 15).

The student is required to be a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs, either as a member of a senior or student-federated club or as an individual senior member of the organization. Please go to the application for a list of required repertoire and instructions.

Grants in Classical Music from the Rislov Foundation 

Since its founding in 1998, the Rislov Foundation has bestowed grants totaling more than one million dollars upon hundreds of exceptionally talented classical musicians, vocalists, and organizations.

The organization rewards deserving classical musicians who have demonstrated remarkable potential; this includes classical vocalists. The focus is on music from the classical era.

Sigma Alpha Iota Career Performance Grant In Memory of Verna Ross Orndorff 

One member of Sigma Alpha Iota will be selected each year to receive a grant for $5,000 to assist her in pursuing her career in the performing arts.

The following singers and instrumentalists will have the opportunity to participate in the program on a three-year cycle:

1) Strings, Woodwinds, and Brass: 2017–2018;

2) Piano, Harpsichord, Organ, and Percussion: 2018–2019; and

3) Voice: 2019–2020.

Instrumentalists must be at most 32 years old when the application deadline rolls around. When the application deadline rolls around, vocalists can be at most 35.

An applicant must have been inducted into SAI to qualify for this award. At the same time, they were enrolled in a college program, must have completed their undergraduate degree by the time the application is due, must be preparing for a concert career, demonstrate career potential, must have significant performing experience outside of the academic environment, and must not be represented by a professional management company.

The grant money must be spent on furthering your education, working with a coach, or one of the many other activities directly relevant to building a successful performing career. Each application needs to be supported with either a DVD that is 30 minutes long or a movie uploaded to YouTube.

A qualified judging panel will choose the winner from among all the submitted applications by the deadline date of March 15 (Eastern Time), and they will decide. The chosen repertoire should showcase the performer’s musicianship, technique, and interpretive abilities.

On the recording, you should avoid making any repeats. It is unacceptable for the applicant to submit original compositions or works that have not been published.

Scholarships for Outstanding Academic Achievement Awarded by Sigma Alpha Iota 

Each chapter can put forth a candidate for the Undergraduate scholarship. The selection of winners depends on how well they live up to the values of Sigma Alpha Iota. We look at the SAI member’s “total” score.

The amount of the recipient’s tuition for the program or institution will be deducted straight from the scholarship. There will be three scholarships given, each worth $2,000. In addition, ten scholarships will be granted, each worth $1,500.

The James M. & Virginia M. Smyth Scholarship Fund o

The James M. and Virginia M. Smyth Scholarship Fund will give preference to applicants hailing from the states of Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas who have been accepted for enrollment or are currently enrolled at an accredited college, university, or technical school.

The student must establish that they need financial assistance and be working toward a degree in the arts and sciences, human services, music, or ministry. The award amount is $2,000 annually for a maximum of four years. The number of awards ranges from 12 to 15.

Vermont Student Assistance Corp. Lee A. Lyman Memorial Music Scholarship 

In 1995, the Virginia State Arts Commission (VSAC) established the Lee A. Lyman Memorial Music Scholarship in Lee A. Lyman’s honor. The Vermont Student Aid Commission (VSAC) named this award after Lee because of her passion for music and her unwavering dedication to assisting Vermont students with the financial burden of pursuing postsecondary education.

Attend a school accredited and authorized for federal Title IV funding (Pell grants, Loans, PLUS loans); seek a master’s degree in music; prove participation in music-related actions, showings, and groups; demonstrate educational success; and demonstrate a requirement for financial assistance.

American Composers Alliance (ACA)

The American Composers Alliance (ACA) is a composers’ services company based in the United States that focuses on the publication and promotion of contemporary classical music from the United States.

It is the oldest national organization of its sort, founded in 1937 by Aaron Copland, Marion Bauer, and Milton Adolphus, amongst others. It currently has approximately 200 member composers among its constituents.

The organization’s headquarters can be found in the borough of Manhattan in New York, New York. Beginning in 1951, the ACA has honored individuals and organizations for “distinguished achievement in developing and promoting American music” by bestowing the Laurel Leaf Award.

American Composers Edition is the imprint used to publish musical scores by the American Composers Alliance (ACE). The American Composers Alliance (ACA) hosted an annual American music festival from 2001 through 2013. During that time, it featured six to eight concerts featuring the works of more than thirty American composers.

Previous festivals have been praised in articles published in The New York Times and New Music Connoisseur. In 2017, the ACA celebrated its 80th anniversary as an organization.

Composers interested in receiving services from the American Composers Alliance must be affiliated with either Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) or ASCAP.

• A membership application can be submitted by any citizen or permanent resident of the United States. There are no stipulations on the appropriate style. The composer must be working at a professional level in modern classical music.
• A minimum of 2 recent scores, two vocals (live or studio), a definitive list of works (with electronic instruments, duration, and premiere performance information), as well as a bio, restart, or curriculum vitae that appears to contain performance information for the previous three years are required to be submitted by the composer in an electronic format.
• This information is evaluated by a subcommittee of the ACA Board of Governors, which then makes a recommendation to the full Board. The full Board is responsible for deciding whether work should be included in the ACA Catalog. The procedure may take anywhere from two to three months to complete.

If the composer’s work is chosen to be included in the ACA Catalog, both parties will sign an agreement known as a Grant of Rights for the chosen compositions.

This Agreement grants administrative and publishing rights to the ACA. This Agreement may be canceled at any time with sufficient notice by the composer or the ACA Board of Governors. The composer retains control of the copyright to their work.

Eligibility for American Composers Alliance

Grants are extremely competitive. Successful applicants are evaluated by a subcommittee of the Board of Governors based on their artistic achievements and chronological age.

To be eligible for membership in the ACA means that.

• You must be writing music at a significant professional level and in a manner that has been published.
• The work must have been created within the past fifteen years and should have been written either entirely or predominantly by you (i.e., not by another composer). It should have been performed on a public platform.
• The work should have been submitted to ACA and selected for inclusion in the Catalog of Music by a committee of composers and musicians. If no objection is raised within thirty days, the work becomes part of the Catalog (listed on Composers.com).
• The composer becomes an “adopted member” of the ACA and agrees to grant certain publishing rights to ACA.

American Composers Forum (ACF)

The American Composers Forum (ACF) is a non-profit organization based in New York City. Its mission is to “support composers of all genres and to raise awareness of their work through education and advocacy.”

A team of students at the University of Minnesota, led by ACF co-founders Libby Larsen and Stephen Paulus, established the American Choral Festival in 1973 to produce performance opportunities outside the academic environment’s confines.

They formalized their organization in 1975 and became known as the Minnesota Composers Forum. They concentrated on concerts that included their members’ compositions during their early years.

At the beginning of the 1980s, the organization started expanding its services by initiating the Jerome Composer Commissioning Program (1979) and innova® recordings (1983). All three of these initiatives are still active today. The Composers Voice project with Minnesota Public Radio (1993) was one of the earliest public advocacy programs.

In 1996, the American Composers Forum (ACF) Board of Directors decided to give the organization its current name to reflect its expanding presence on a national scale.

Eight chapters were founded in major urban centers, and in 1998, as a centennial celebration in conjunction with the National Endowment for the Arts, the 50-state commissioned initiative Continental Harmony was started.
